Athletic Recruiting Regulations

Men's Basketball recruiting regulations are a compilation of dates and rules from association manuals, websites and/or confirmations from association representatives. The recruiting calendar dates run from August 1, 2008 - July 31, 2009. As soon as 2009 - 2010 recruiting regs are published, this info will be updated. The purpose of this section is to provide you with a general overview of recruiting regulations for your sport. NCAA DI

Recruiting Materials/Correspondence

A Division I college may not provide recruiting materials to a prospect in this sport (including general correspondence related to athletics) until June 15 at the conclusion of the prospect's sophomore year in high school.

Telephone Calls

Telephone contact may not be made with the prospective student-athlete prior to the opening day of classes of the prospect's senior year in high school.

Contacts

In-person, off-campus recruiting contacts shall not be made with a prospect or the prospect's relatives or legal guardian(s) prior to July 1 following the prospect's completion of the junior year in high school.

Financial Aid Information

The limit on the total number of athletes per school (counters) that may receive a financial aid award in any academic year for Division I Men's Basketball is 13.0.

NCAA II

Recruiting Materials/Correspondence

Financial Aid Information

The maximum value (equivalency) of financial aid awards that an institution may provide in any academic year for Division II Men's Basketball is 10.0.

National Letter of Intent Signing Period

NCAA III

Recruiting Materials/Correspondence

Institutions are permitted to provide to prospects and to high school and two-year college coaches any official academic, admissions, athletics and student-services publications or videotapes published or produced by the institution and other information of a general nature that is available to all students.

Contacts

Contacts of high school prospects: any recruiting contact (in person, off-campus) shall not be made with a prospect or the prospect's relatives or legal guardian(s) until the prospect has completed the junior year in high school.

NAIA
The NAIA prohibits coaches or other school officials from making initial contact with an athlete who has enrolled at another institution. If a student is enrolled at another college, and the student initiates contact with an NAIA school, the NAIA school must notify the other college of their contact with that student.

NJCAA
The NJCAA allows an athlete to visit a campus for two days and nights. The visit must be completed no less than ten days before the opening date of classes. A school may not lure a prospective student with gifts. A school is permitted to buy meals for a prospective student, but the spending limit is equal to the amount that employees of that institution would spend if traveling for college-related business.
